Other
Sympathetic
Disorders:
A certain percentage of Angina, Reflex sympathetic dystrophy and pain, Raynaudˇ¦s syndrome, Asthma, Schizophrenia, Social phobia, Rhinitis,
Migraine, Tremoring disorders, Parkinsonism ˇK can be treated by sympathetic
surgery. Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) is one of the best method for
preoperative evaluation, which is the best way to avoid unnecessary
sympathetic operation.
Sympathetic Surgery in treatment of
Hypertension:
Sympathetic surgery has been tried to treat Angina and Hypertension for a
long time, but its therapeutic mechanism is still obscure.
After a large series of study
of Lin-Telaranta Classification, Dr. Lin found, every specific sympathetic
disorder is mainly influenced by a single determinant sympathetic ganglion.
Better surgical outcome but less side effects is achieved when surgical
procedure is performed on this determinant ganglion. This is Theory of
ˇ§Single determinant sympathetic ganglionˇ¨.
Clinically, about 30% of
essential hypertensive patients (high blood pressure) are classified into
Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndrome, which can be treated effectively by
sympathetic procedure. Better surgical outcome is noted on patients with
ages before forty than after forty.
Sympathetic Hypertensive
Syndrome includes: 1) Facial hyperhidrosis or blushing; 2) Blood pressure >
100 mmHg in diastolic pressure; 3) Pulse rate > 100 beats/min, which are
also ˇ§Triad of Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndromeˇ¨.
