Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating disorder): Hyperhidrosis, with hereditary tendency, is mainly from psychic origin, which can be classified into (1)Facial sweating, (2) Hand sweating, (3) Axillar sweating (Bromidrosis), (4) Foot sweating, (5) Sweating of whole body. Several different sweating areas can be present concommitantly. Except medical treatment is considered for generalized sweating; only sympathetic surgical procedure guarantees permanent cure for different sweating disorders. Dr. Lin is the first people who found out the mechanism of postoperative reflex sweating (compensatory sweating) and could avoid it by his invented sympathetic procedures. Preservation of facial sweating fuction is the corner stone to avoid reflex sweating in sympathetic surgery. Reflex sweating can be avoided nearly hundred percent on patients with only hand and axillar sweatings. Though T2 or T3 sympathetic procedure can treat Hyperhidrosis palmaris effectively, higher incidence and risk of severe reflex sweating are encountered. It is worthy to notice that facial sweating is also an indicator of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Dr. Lin found that sympathetic procedures could concommitantly treat both facial sweating and hypertension. Of course, long-term follow-up is necessary to evaluate its therapeutic and preventive effects to hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
More than 200 foreign patients from more than 30 countries came Taiwan to receive Dr. Lin’s operation for different sympathetic disorder.
